What once sprung from earth sinks back into the earth.

Cedit item retro, de terra quod fuit ante, in terras.

—  Lucretius, 98-55 BC, Roman poet

EARTH
Earth symbolizes growth, and physical sensation- things we can taste, smell, hear and touch. Also representing the Earth Mother, birth, death and the manifestation of matter and cycles of life. Opposing the chaotic heat and destruction of Fire, Earth is cool and steady, creation and destruction existing as one.
As you are working with Earth in your craft, you may find that the Earth element is abundant and easily incorporated.
It is our whole bodies that contains us, it is the sage that cleanses us, the salts that circle us, the crystals that protects us, the familiars that aid us, the herbs that heal us, and the dirt that grows the food that nourishes us and that ultimately buries us.
Cleansing and protecting witchcraft with earth is a powerful way to ground and regenerate energies around you. Many types of salt are used to form protective circles around a ritual or spell, and cleanse altars, tools and crystals. Crystals and stones are of the earth and a great way to connect to the different energies within it. Using herbs as medicines, tinctures or incenses also honors and utilizes Mother Earth in witchcraft. Working with animals and familiars is another way to connect with earth.
Earth is Fixed and situated at the North of the Wheel of Time and the Sacred Circle.
Corresponds to the suit of Pentacles in Tarot, Grows slowly, a season to a year.
Pentacles describe your material world, body and finances. When this suit comes up use your common sense.
